Sample Preparation Matters

Welcome to Datech Scientific Ltd, your trusted Laboratory Partner since 1989 for premium sample preparation equipment and laboratory automation solutions. We specialize in equipping laboratories with state-of-the-art instruments to support X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), Induced Coupled Plasma (ICP) analyses, and more, through our esteemed partnerships with Herzog Maschinenfabrik, PD Instruments, Nucomat, and other innovators in the Laboratory environment.

HP-BTM2 Crusher, Splitter & Pulveriser

To cover a broad range of applications the input weight can be between 1 and 15kg. The maximum particle size, which can be introduced in the HP-BTM2, is 50mm. The general application of the HP-BTM2 is particle size reduction and sub-sampling in order to obtain a representative sample for final analysis with X-ray fluorescence. To eliminate operational risks, the sample weights are monitored after each preparation step.

Modular design

The machine consists of five main individual working units:

  1. Input magazine

  2. Crusher/Linear Splitter HP-BT15

  3. Cup handling device HK-RX3

  4. 2x Mill HP-M1500C

  5. Output belt magazines

Input magazine

The input is designed to allow an easy transfer of the material into the bucket with 5L volume. In the magazine up to 15 of those buckets can be stored. The operator can choose different customised programs for sample preparation for each of those buckets.

Crusher/Linear Splitter HP-BT15

The first preparation step is a size reduction done by a jaw crusher. A vibration feeder which is located below the crusher ensures a constant material flow into the subsequent linear splitting unit. The linear splitter allows a representative sub-sampling of adjustable volumes into two cups (1.5L). Calculating the desired splitting ratio (sample/residue material) is done automatically. Residual material is discharged via a vibration feeder to a waste bucket or a de-dusting system.

Cup handling device HR-RX3

The cup handling between the single compounds is done by a swivel- mounted 2 axis handling device with a robot gripper.

Mill HP-M1500C

This unit basically consists of a pulverising mill with the maximum capacity of approx. 1.5L. These mills allow fine grinding of the crushed material to a particle size suitable for creating a final sub-sample. This pulverised sub-sample can be used, e.g. for the preparation of fused beads for chemical analysis by XRF. For further reducing of the sample volume, a second dosing device transfers the material into small vials (100ml). The material which has not been dosed into the vial will remain in the cup and can be used as a backup sample.

Output belt – magazines

The cup handling device puts both parts of the sample, the vials and the cups, on 2 different belts with 30 positions each. From here, the samples can be taken away. Underneath these belts, there are 2 input belts, where empty cups and vials will be transported back into the system.

After each preparation step, the system is cleaned by compressed air. An external dust extraction unit is required to remove waste material. This facility can be supplied as an option. The machine is equipped with a separate electrical control cabinet, is totally enclosed, sound insulated and requires minimum operator assistance.
